Song of the Eels Art Project 2016

Song of the Eels – Art Project 2016

Eighteen education institutions across the Glenelg Shire will participate in this year’s Upwelling Festival major community art project titled ‘Song of the Eels’.

The Upwelling Festival has confirmed 12 Primary Schools, 4 Secondary Schools, Portland Bay School and SW TAFE art students will take part in creative workshops across the Glenelg Shire in the month of October.

Puppeteer Jenny Ellis returns to the Upwelling Festival for 2016, and will work with participants to produce a large-scale puppetry project to be presented in the Upwelling Festival Street Parade on Saturday 29th October.

This year’s major art project ‘Song of the Eels’ is based on the theme of migratory freshwater eels. The life-cycle of the freshwater eel contains an amazing story. The eels play a particularly fascinating role in the culture of the Gunditjmara and the Indigenous history of the Glenelg Shire region.
